Frequently Asked Questions
Is INTERA relevant to my work?
Who is INTERA designed for?
INTERA is designed for people who are responsible for an area of the business and need to know what is happening before a customer, colleague or manager asks. This includes sales and account managers, finance and billing teams, operations managers, sysadmins and business leaders.
It is most useful when important information is spread across several systems and routine checks, reconciliations or explanations still depend on people collecting the facts by hand.
What can INTERA show a sales or account manager?
INTERA can compare what was agreed with the customer against what was actually delivered, activated, invoiced or paid. It shows which commitments are complete, which remain outstanding and where the supporting information comes from.
This helps sales and account managers answer customers confidently, prepare for meetings and avoid making new promises without knowing the current position.
What can INTERA show a finance or billing team?
INTERA can compare sales, service usage, invoices, payments and accounting records to show where they do not agree. It can highlight missing or delayed invoices, unbilled services, incorrect charges, payment discrepancies and unusual financial changes.
Instead of repeatedly checking complete reports, finance and billing teams can focus on the exceptions that need attention and see the supporting data behind each result.
What can INTERA show a sysadmin or IT manager?
INTERA can bring together selected signals from monitoring, backup, service and ticketing systems to show which servers, services or processes need attention. It shows what changed, which checks failed or became stale, and where the supporting information comes from.
INTERA works alongside existing monitoring tools. It helps IT narrow the investigation, answer questions quickly and clearly show what happened when a problem is escalated.
Does INTERA work only in particular industries?
No. INTERA is built around responsibilities and operational problems that appear across many industries. A sales commitment must be checked against delivery, billing must agree with actual activity, and IT must know which systems require attention—whether the company works in telecommunications, manufacturing, logistics, maritime or another sector.
This also allows useful checks, role structures and working practices developed in one industry to be adapted for another. Companies can benefit from cross-industry experience without sharing their operational data.
What does INTERA actually do?
What problem does INTERA solve?
INTERA solves the problem of important operational information being spread across several systems, reports and teams. The data usually exists, but understanding the complete situation requires someone to collect it, compare it and explain what it means.
INTERA brings the relevant information together, checks what should agree and shows the exceptions, changes and risks that need attention—with the supporting data behind each result.
What happens after INTERA connects to our systems?
After INTERA connects to your systems, the data needed for the agreed problem is selected and organised into a role-specific view. INTERA then refreshes it on a defined schedule, compares related records, calculates the required metrics and highlights changes or inconsistencies that need attention.
INTERA does not try to reproduce every detail from the connected systems. It shows the result and its supporting data, so your team knows what requires action and where to investigate.
What does INTERA mean by “showing what needs attention”?
INTERA does not simply display all available data. It applies defined checks, comparisons and thresholds to identify exceptions such as missing information, inconsistent records, unusual changes, overdue commitments or failed processes.
For each exception, INTERA shows what was affected, why it was flagged and the supporting data behind the result. Your team can focus on the items that require judgement or action instead of repeatedly checking everything.
What is an INTERA Role package?
An INTERA Role package is a ready-made starting point for a particular area of responsibility, such as sales, billing, finance, operations or IT. It includes predefined metrics, reconciliations, checks and views based on the questions that people in that role regularly need to answer.
The package is then mapped to the systems and data used by your company. This avoids starting with a blank screen while still allowing the role to reflect how your business actually operates.
Is INTERA just another dashboard or BI tool?
Not exactly. BI tools such as Power BI and Tableau are well suited to analysing data, building reports and creating visualisations. INTERA is designed for ongoing operational checks across several systems.
It applies defined business logic, compares information that should agree and highlights the exceptions or changes that need attention. INTERA can work alongside your existing BI tools, giving each role a practical view of what requires action and the supporting data behind it.
Could our IT team build something similar with ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes—and we encourage this kind of experimentation. AI can help your team explore available data, test an idea, create an initial script and define which operational questions are worth answering. This often produces a much clearer problem for INTERA to implement.
INTERA provides the permanent structure around the result: secure connections, scheduled updates, data history, permissions, error handling and traceable operational views. Instead of maintaining a separate internal application for every experiment, useful checks can become repeatable parts of an INTERA Role.
AI-generated findings and forecasts can also be added alongside the facts retained by INTERA, without replacing the original values. INTERA can then present them together as meaningful history: past trends, current values and future forecasts, with a clear distinction between measured facts and AI-produced assessments.
How does INTERA work with our existing systems?
Does INTERA replace our ERP, CRM, accounting or monitoring systems?
No. Your ERP, CRM, accounting and monitoring systems remain the authoritative places for recording transactions, managing work and investigating technical detail.
INTERA sits above them and uses selected data to create a shared operational view. It compares information across systems, identifies changes or inconsistencies and shows where attention is required. The underlying system remains the place where your team investigates the detail and takes action.
What systems and data sources can INTERA connect to?
INTERA can connect to ERP, CRM, accounting, billing, monitoring and other operational systems. It can also use data from SQL databases, APIs, spreadsheets, structured files and internal applications.
Connections are provided through INTERA integrations and configured for the specific data required by each use case. If a ready-made integration is not available, a focused integration can be created without attempting to reproduce the entire external system.
Does INTERA change or write data back into our systems?
No. INTERA is designed as a read-only operational visibility layer. It retrieves the selected information it needs but does not change customer records, transactions or operational data in the connected systems.
INTERA keeps its own history, metrics, reconciliations and findings. Your team continues to use the original ERP, CRM, accounting, monitoring or operational system to correct data, approve changes and take action.
Where is our data stored?
This depends on the selected deployment. In a cloud installation, INTERA data is stored within the INTERA environment hosted in Microsoft Azure.
With a local installation, the connected data, history, configuration and results are stored on a server within your own infrastructure. Operational data from the local installation is not uploaded to the INTERA cloud.
What happens if an integration for one of our systems is not yet available?
INTERA does not usually need a complete integration with every part of the external system. We first identify the exact data required for the agreed problem. In many cases, it can be accessed through an existing API, SQL database, structured export or another standard INTERA integration.
If a dedicated connection is required, a focused integration can be created for the necessary data sources. During the Private Beta, we assess this as part of the first use case and confirm the required access and development work before starting.
How is our data protected, and who can access our connected systems?
INTERA is designed to minimise access and data exposure. Each integration retrieves only the information required for its defined purpose, using dedicated read-only credentials wherever the connected system supports them. Access within INTERA is controlled through user roles and permissions.
With a local installation, the data, history, configuration and connection credentials remain within your own infrastructure. Operational data is not uploaded to the INTERA cloud.
The INTERA support team does not automatically receive access to your internal systems, APIs or credentials. If direct assistance is required, any temporary access must be explicitly approved and arranged with your team.
How do we start?
Why does INTERA recommend starting with one problem?
Starting with one problem keeps the first implementation small, specific and easy to verify. We can connect only the data that is needed, define what a useful result should look like and quickly determine whether INTERA improves the way your team works.
Once that first check is reliable and useful, the same connections and structure can be extended to additional problems and roles. This allows INTERA to grow from a proven result instead of becoming another large implementation project.
What is a good first problem to bring to INTERA?
A good first problem is specific, repeated and already costing someone time or creating risk. The required information usually exists, but answering the question means comparing two or more systems, checking reports manually or asking several people.
Examples include:
checking whether commitments made to customers were delivered, activated and invoiced;
comparing usage, billing, accounting and payment information;
identifying which servers, backups or services require investigation;
finding overdue items or exceptions that teams repeatedly check by hand.
The best starting point is not “we need better visibility.” It is a practical statement such as: “Every week, someone compares this information with that information to find these exceptions.”
How long does it take to see the first useful result?
When the first problem is clearly defined and the required data is accessible, an initial working result can often be produced within a few hours.
The timetable depends on the availability of suitable integrations, access approvals and the amount of data mapping required. Before starting, we agree on the question INTERA must answer and confirm the necessary data, so the first result has a clear and testable scope.
What is included in the Private Beta Early Adopter programme?
Selected Early Adopters receive INTERA free for the first 12 months, with custom onboarding and direct help defining and configuring the first real use case.
The programme includes:
cloud or local installation;
up to 25 users and five integrations;
unlimited data history;
the free Sysadmin package and one additional Role package;
priority support and direct contact with the INTERA team;
an opportunity to influence product development through practical feedback.
If the use case requires a new integration or additional custom development, its scope is agreed separately before work begins.
What do you expect from an Early Adopter?
We expect an Early Adopter to bring one real operational problem, involve the people who understand it and provide access to the selected data required to test the solution.
Your team should be prepared to verify the results, explain where our assumptions are wrong and provide honest feedback based on actual use. If INTERA delivers a useful result, we also expect a willingness to provide public feedback or participate in an agreed case study. Confidential information and operational data will not be published.
